Interaction between coal and lignin briquettes in co-carbonization

The utilization of bio-based side streams in metallurgical coke making promotes two major factors the mitigation climate impact steel industry. Circular economy as waste material from biorefinery industry is utilized a raw industry, and production fossil-based CO2 emissions. In this work, lignin hydrolysis process was used briquetted form part blend making. For experiments analyses, briquettes were pyrolyzed at 450, 600 1200 °C, while one sample left non-pyrolyzed. co-carbonization lignin, chars bituminous coal, focus to evaluate interaction between char coal carbonization. This studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), optical dilatometry, light microscopy. results suggested that reduced when pyrolysis temperature briquettes, prior co-carbonization, elevated. due decrease overlapping rates coking coal. Combined with dilation shrinking behaviour chars, presented paper, separate structures formed final co-carbonization.
